Politicians around the world are talking about climate protection. Children around the world are simply doing it. Plant-forthe- Planet is the name of the student initiative that is advocating climate justice in the world. Their goal: Planting a million trees in each country for climate justice. Their slogan appeals to adults and is equally provocative to the point: "Stop talking. Start planting." You simply have to get your hands dirty and tackle the future.
The Plant-for-the-Planet initiative has its roots in a report from a student. In his homework, Felix Finkbeiner formulated the vision that children could plant a million trees in every country. The then nine-year-old was inspired by the history of Wangari Maathai. The Kenyan environmental activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner planted 30 million trees in 30 years. No sooner said than done, Felix Finkbeiner's vision became a reality because children around the world began to plant trees. With each tree, they are planting a piece of climate protection and a piece of the future.
Ambassadors for climate justice densify the networkThe organisation grew along with the trees. In 2009 at the
UNEP Tunza Children and Youth Conference in Daejeon,
South Korea, Plant-for-the-Planet made the leap to an international
children's movement. Today, children from over 100
countries around the world are already taking part in this
initiative. It is based on the simple idea that the community
can achieve more than the individual. Accordingly, Plantfor-
the-Planet spans the world with a green net for climate
justice. Ambassadors for climate justice densify this network.
Climate justice means the uniform distribution of emissions
to all people. The result: People would only produce as much
greenhouse gas as forests and oceans can absorb.
In July 2011, Felix and his friends were in Tanzania, Kenya,
South Africa and Lesotho to train thousands of children to
be ambassadors for climate justice. The newly minted ambassadors
for climate justice then carry the message in their
schools, to friends and acquaintances. They thus release an
avalanche that makes our planet greener and should raise
people's awareness.
With the accompanying communication campaign of "Stop talking. Start planting.", which started in 2009, the children particularly appeal to the awareness of adults, parents and politicians. Do not talk to us about climate protection. Do it. The result: They are doing it. Each individual is showing that he or she can assume responsibility. Adults can support the children in their fi ght for the future by making tree donations. A new tree is planted for each donated euro.
Know what is growing – Academies form the Plant-forthe- Planet basis
By registering at www.plant-for-the-planet.org, any person can give his personal tree pledge, depending on how many trees he would like to plant with friends, family, etc. The tree planters form so-called planting groups. Each planting group can honour their tree planting pledge either by directly planting the corresponding number of trees or by paying the corresponding amount of money.
Conclusion:
Stop talking, keep planting. This is how future
opportunities grow for children.
