It really is quite amazing: a transparent glass ceramic panel separates areas with a temperature difference of over 700 degrees without shattering. These panels give a fascinating view of the flames and come in a number of different designs.
Of course, the panels are not made of ordinary window glass, which would not be able to withstand the heat. Only a panel made of glass-ceramic material can be used to enclose a fireplace safely. The international SCHOTT group has been supplying glass-ceramic panels of this kind for 30 years. The most famous is the CERAN® cooktop. All over the world CERAN® has come to be synonymous with ease of use and good design in the kitchen. ROBAX® is the brand name of the transparent panels used in fireplaces and stoves.
ROBAX® and ROBAX® Diamond
SCHOTT glass-cerami vision panels for fireplaces and stoves are available in flat shape, but also in bent, curved or even three-dimensional forms. They can also be supplied with heat-resistant decoration on request. In addition, the panels can be drilled and the edges bevelled. ROBAX® Diamond panels have bevelled edges which create multiple reflections of the dancing flames. Other new options include anti-reflective and infrared coatings. The infrared coatings reflect some of the radiant heat back into the fireplace or fire box. This is useful when the fireplace or stove is in a room where less heat is needed or when more energy is required by a water heat exchanger.
